The client is eCommerce brand that sells street fashion clothing & accessories. The end customers are young and mostly love the surfing, skateboard, biking related inventory. A mobile was a great initiative for the client as their mobile footfall was really high and the client like stickiness and ability to closely engage a mobile app provides.
We decided to create create native experiences for IOS and android for better UX and faster development.
The Process
I started with desk research and looked at all the street fashion brands and tried to understand design patterns. I also visited the stores and spent time observing the users and what they care for. Each store is organized in a a specific order, for eg. few stores had new arrivals right at the entrance and mens, women and so on.
While observing, I was taking notes on how customers shopped (most of them knew what they were looking for and few of the were looking around taking time to see whats on offer). I had opportunity to talk to store associates to understand their customers.
With all this in mind we wanted to provide best navigation experience. I created click through wireframes and these wireframes were brainstormed and validated by a group of technical architects, business owners (mostly providing feedback from end user perspective). We tested variations using usertesting.com.
The final mockups were again socialized with this group before they are handed over to development.
